Maiale: my animal name and real change

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Maiale (Pig) from Croatia tells us about his journey to Damanhur: first as a guest, then as a participant in the Damanhur School of Meditation at the Damanhur Center Talej in Zagreb, and finally through the choice to experience the New Life citizenship program.

Maiale shares:

I came to Damanhur for the first time 10 years ago as a tourist with a friend in a bus loaded with people. During the visit, everyone in the group was very awestruck by the things they saw, though I thought it was all pretty normal. For example, when we were on the tour of Damjl, and the guide was explaining about this pool where they collect rainwater for different uses, like flushing toilets, and as reserve for fire fighting teams, everyone was saying, “wow… it’s a miracle!” while my friend and I looked at each other and asked “Where is the miracle? It’s a normal thing. Water is collected and used.”[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”52648″ media_width_percent=”100”][vc_column_text]However, I was very impressed by the Temples of Humankind, which resounded deeply within me and the way that I think. In addition to the Temples, we did the whole tour around Damanhur and we experienced a lot. When the Damanhurians mentioned how they have chosen names of animals and plants, I said, “Oh, I want to be called Maiale (Pig)!” I thought my name would be Maiale Anguria (Pig Watermelon), but unfortunately Anguria is already taken by someone.

On the bus ride back after our visit to Damanhur, a man said to me and my friend, “This is all very beautiful, but how can you believe in all this? You are so happy because you believe in it.” I said to him, “I don’t know, I just take things as they are. You can choose to believe or not… I don’t know yet.”
So when I returned back home, I participated in a Damanhurian Spiritual Physics course because it is something that I am interested in. Then at a certain point, I also started with the Damanhur School of Meditation.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”52647″ media_width_percent=”100″][vc_column_text]Then last year, the Viaggio came to visit different Damanhur centers, including Talej in Zagreb, and I joined them for the adventure! While I was on Viaggio, I ended up getting the animal name Maiale! I was so happy.
After this Viaggio, nothing was ever the same. I hadn’t really thought about living in Damanhur before, but after the Viaggio, I was trying to find reasons not to go. Then, digging deeper and deeper, I couldn’t find any more reasons, so I decided to jump in and see what would happen if I moved to Damanhur. I just said to myself, “Okay, what’s the worst thing that can happen? You can always come back.” And, I just went.

I joined the New Life program, which is a temporary citizenship where you can live in the community and see what it is like to be a citizen of Damanhur. After the program ended, I decided to become a Damanhur citizen! I think the most unique thing about Damanhur is that the project is connected to all of humanity. There is the intention to help guide humanity on the path towards growth on all levels: social, spiritual and political.

I like Damanhur because it’s not only talking about how things don’t work in society, it’s putting new ideas into practice. Some people I know are unhappy with their jobs or their lives. They know there is something more to life, but they don’t change anything because they believe that even if we try to change things, it won’t make a difference.
